The Words of Eternal Life
60 tWhen many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, vknowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? 62 Then what if you were to see wthe Son of Man xascending to ywhere he was before? 63 zIt is the Spirit who gives life; athe flesh is no help at all. bThe words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But cthere are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus vknew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and dwho it was who would betray him.) 65 And he said, “This is why I told you ethat no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”
66 fAfter this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to gthe Twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have hthe words of eternal life, 69 and iwe have believed, and have come to know, that jyou are kthe Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, l“Did I not choose you, gthe Twelve? And yet one of you is ma devil.” 71 He spoke of Judas nthe son of Simon Iscariot, for ohe, one of the Twelve, was going to betray him.

60-61절) 앞서 예수의 살과 피를 먹고 마시는것에 대한 이야기를 문자적으로 해석할때 어려움을 느끼게 된다.
말씀을 듣는 것과 순종하는 것은 차이가 있다. 듣는 이는 많지만 그것을 순종하는 이는 적다. (듣는 것과 이해하는것, 알아듣는 것은 다르다.)
예수를 믿는다는 것은 단지 단지 피상적으로 예수에게 속하는 것을 말하는 것이 아니다. 예수 자신이 직접 죽음의 순종을 통해서 이끌어가시는 그 길을 따라 순종하는 것이 바로 믿음이기에 이것이 많은 이들에게는 걸림이 되는 것이다.
63절) 육체(지정의를 포괄하는 인간 본성)는 진정한 영적인 생명을 얻게하는 것은 불가능하다. 이것은 오직 성령을 통해서만 가능하다. 이 성령은 말씀안에서, 말씀을 통해서 능력있게 역사하는데 바로 그 예수님께서 이야기하신 그 말씀이 바로 영이요 생명인 것이다.
65-66절) 예수를 따르던 많은 이들이 예수의 말씀(무리중에 예수를 믿지 않는 자들이 있고 또 누군가 예수를 팔 자가 있다라는)을 듣고 예수를 떠났다. 왜냐하면 그들이 예수를 따른 이유는 실질적인 이익, 예를 들면 치유나 오병이어와 같은 이유에서 였다.
67-69절) 이에 예수님께서 제자들에게 너희들도 떠나려느냐?라고 물으시는데 이에 대해서 시몬 베드로가 대답한다. 이 대답은 공관복음에서 등장하는 베드로의 신앙고백을 연상케 한다.

This confession in the Fourth Gospel is parallel to the confession of Peter at Caesarea Philippi in the Synoptics (cf. Matt 16:16; Mark 8:29; Luke 9:20), particularly the expanded version in Matthew. In the Synoptic confession Peter’s words were well intentioned but not fully understood because there he immediately tried to instruct Jesus about the nature of his messiahship.

베드로는 주님에게 영생의 말씀이 있음을 믿음으로 고백한다. 그러면서 주님을 "하나님의 거룩한 분”(the Holy One of god)으로 고백한다.
70-71절) 앞서 베드로의 대답에서 우리가 믿고 알았다라고 고백하는데 이어서 주님은 내가 택한 12명중에 한 사람은 나를 팔게 된 것이다라고 말씀하시고 그가 바로 가룟 시몬의 아들 유다라고 기록하고 있다.

Judas also is described as the son of Simon Iscariot (cf. 13:26). At 12:4 he is referred to by the usual name of Judas Iscariot and elsewhere simply as Judas (cf. 18:2–5). Only in John is Judas designated as the son of Simon Iscariot. In the Synoptics he is designated most frequently as Judas Iscariot (cf. Matt 10:4; 26:14) or as Judas, the betrayer (cf. Matt 27:3). The designation “Iscariot” may be derived from ʾîš qĕrîyôt, “man from Kerioth.” Another possibility may be that he was one of the sicarii, the revolutionary knife men who sought the overthrow of the Roman authorities in Israel. But whatever the original meaning, the designation “betrayer” has become almost synonymous with the name Judas. Even here John would not let the reader forget the dark side of this disciple in contrast to the self-giving sacrifice of Jesus.
