요 7:37-52 예수님의 말씀에 나뉘어지는 사람들

Rivers of Living Water

^37 yOn the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ^z“If anyone thirsts, let him ^acome to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, ^bas⁶ the Scripture has said, ^c‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of ^dliving water.’ ” 39 Now ^ethis he said about the Spirit, ^fwhom those who believed in him were to receive, ^gfor as yet the Spirit had not been ^hgiven, ⁱbecause Jesus was not yet glorified. 

⁴⁰ When they heard these words, ^jsome of the people said, “This really is ^kthe Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^lthe Christ.” But some said, ^m“Is the Christ to come from Galilee? ⁴² Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes ⁿfrom the offspring of David, and comes ^ofrom Bethlehem, the village ^pwhere David was?” ⁴³ So there was ^qa division among the people over him. ^44 rSome of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.
^45 sThe officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring him?” ⁴⁶ The officers answered, ^t“No one ever spoke like this man!” ⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, ^u“Have you also been deceived? ^48 vHave any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” ^50 wNicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, ^51 x“Does our law judge a man without first ^ygiving him a hearing and learning what he does?” ⁵² They replied, ^z“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^ano prophet arises from Galilee.”

37-39절) 명절 끝날 무리 앞에서 외치시는 주님. “누구든지 목마르거든 내게로 와서 마시라. 나를 믿는 자는 성경에 이름과 같이 그 배에서 생수의 강이 흘러나리라” 

앞서 사마리아여인에게 말씀하셨던 것처럼 목마르지않는 생수를 말씀하신다. 이는 믿는자들이 받을 성령으로 아직 주님께서 부활하시고 승천하시지 않으셨기에 성령이 임하지는 않은 상태였다. 

-  To come to Jesus and drink means to believe in him, to enter into a trusting, ongoing personal relationship with him. Both the image of “coming” to Jesus as one would come to a person and the image of “drinking” imply not mere intellectual assent but a wholehearted personal involvement and participation.

38절에서 말한대서 성경과 정확히 일치하는 구절은 없지만 성경 전체의 내용을 암시하고 그려내고 있다. 

-  Although there is no specific Scripture passage from the OT that matches Jesus’ words here, he is apparently giving a summary of the teaching and implication of several passages that picture the inward work of God in a believer as a river of water flowing out to bring blessing to others (see Prov. 4:23; Isa. 58:11).

39절에서 성령이 아직 저희에게 계시지 않다라는 의미는 예수님의 부활 이전에 전혀 성령의 역사가 없었다는 의미는 아니다. 이미 창조시부터 성령께서 일하셨고, 믿는 자들 안에서 역사하셨던 것은 분명하다. 이는 새 언약 시대에 대한 약속으로 새 영을 부으시겠다는 언약의 성취이다. 

-  As yet the Spirit had not been given does not mean that there was no work of the Holy Spirit in the world prior to Jesus’ resurrection, for already in Gen. 1:2 the Holy Spirit was present in the world, “hovering over the face of the waters” (see also Gen. 6:3; 41:38; Ex. 31:3; Num. 11:25). Some OT verses even speak of the Spirit of God at work within believers prior to the coming of Christ (see Num. 27:18; Deut. 34:9; Ezek. 2:2; 3:24; Dan. 4:8–9, 18; 5:11; Mic. 3:8; cf. Luke 1:15, 41, 67). This verse must therefore mean that “the Spirit had not been given” in the full and powerful sense that was promised for the new covenant age (see Ezek. 36:26, 27; 37:14; Joel 2:28–29; cf. John 20:22; Acts 2:1–13).

40-44절) 이러한 주님의 말씀을 듣고 어떤 무리들은 주님이 참 선지자다라고 여겼고 또 다른 무리들은 그리스도라고 했으며 다른 이들은 그리스도가 어찌 갈릴리에서 나올 수 있느냐라고 하였다. 왜냐하면 그리스도는 다윗의 씨로 베들레헴에서 나야 하는데 주님은 갈릴리 출신이었기 때문이다. 결국 이들은 주님에 대해서 알았지만 제대로 알지 못했던 것이다. 주님의 실제 출생지가 베들레헴인 것을 모른채 지금 살고 있는 갈릴리가 그분의 출생지인것으로 착각했기에 이런 실수를 하게 되었다. / 이로 인해 무리들 속에서는 논쟁이 일어났고 그래서 그를 잡으려 했으나 실제로 그에게 손을 대지는 못하였다. 

45-49절) 앞서 대제사장들과 바리새인들에게 명을 받아 예수를 잡으러 갔던 성전 경비병에게 왜 그를 잡아오지 않았느냐고 묻는다. 이에 대해서 경비병들은 그 사람이 말하는 것처럼 말한 사람은 이때까지 없었다며 그분의 가르침과 메시지에 특별한 무엇인가가 있다는 것을 감지했고 이를 고백했다. 그러자 바리새인들은 경비병들 너희도 그의 가르침에 미혹되었는지? 또한 다른 당국자들과 바리새인들 중에 그의 가르침에 넘어가서 그를 믿는 자가 있는지를 물었고, 율법을 알지 못하는 이 무리는 저주를 받은 자다라고 이야기한다. 

이 얼마나 아이러니한가? 율법을 알고 있는 이들이 도리어 주님을 알아보지 못하고 그분을 모함하고 죽이려고 한다. 

50-52절) 이러한 혼란한 상황속에 이를 중재하기 위해서 등장한 인물이바로 니고데모이다. 그는 일전에 밤에 예수께 찾아와서 영생의 진리의 말씀을 들었던 인물인데 이제 무리들이 예수님으로 인해서 나뉘어지고 분쟁이 일어나자 이를 중재한다. 본문에서 아주 직접적으로 주님의 편을 들거나 두둔하지는 못하고, 율법을 가지고 예수님을 송사하는 이들에게 율법을 가지고 이를 중재해낸다. 율법은 사람의 말을 듣고 그가 행한 것을 알아야 판결을 내릴 수 있다는 것이다. 지금 무리들의 판결은 제대로 그분의 말씀을 듣거나 그분이 행한 것을 제대로 확인해보지 않고 성급하게 내리는 판결이기에 신중하게 행할 것을 명한다. 아마도 니고데모의 명성으로 인해서 그의 중재를 거부하지는 못하고 돌아가면서 여전히 그들이 마지막으로 말하는 내용은 바로 갈릴리에서는 선지자가 나지 못한다는 것이고 니고데모 너도 갈릴리 출신인가라는 말이었다. 

율법을 알지만 제대로, 바르게 알지 못할때 그 앎이 도리어 우리를 파멸의 길로 인도할 수 있음을 명심해야 할 것이다.
