^16 a“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and ^bagain a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So ^csome of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ^d‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ^e‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? ^fWe do not know what he is talking about.” 19 ^gJesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’?

'조금 있으면’ 이라는 표현이 앞서 요한복음에 4번 사용되었다. 

-  recalling four previous instances of “a little while” in John’s Gospel (cf. 7:33; 12:35; 13:33; 14:19).

16-33절에서 요한은 주님의 떠남으로인해 고뇌하는 제자들에게 4가지를 이야기한다. 

-  In this second part of the anxiety circle, John treats four important issues. In the first segment he focuses on the disciples’ bewilderment with Jesus’ references to time (16:16–19). In the second he deals with the relationship of sorrow to joy (16:20–22). In the third he provides perspective on the disciples’ petitions (16:23–28). And in the fourth he presents a surprising reversal and its implications (16:29–33).

16절) 조금 있으면 너희가 나를 보지 못할 것이고 또 조금 있으면 나를 보리라… 앞서는 주님의 십자가의 죽음으로 주님께서 아버지께로 가는 것을 말한다. 그리고 이후에 다시 보게 될 것은 부활이후의 주님의 모습이다. 

-  That perspective is certainly suggested in the next verse, where the disciples in fact conclude that this statement must be linked to Jesus’ earlier repeated remarks concerning “going to the Father” (16:17; cf. 16:5; 14:1–11; 13:33, 36).

17-18절) 예수님의 말씀을 이해하지 못하는 제자들, 이 두번의 시점이 언제인지, 아버지께로 간다는 것이 어떤 의미인지 그들은 알지 못했다. 

19절) 제자들의 질문을 다시금 확인하시는 주님, 주님의 앎은 본질적으로 제자들이나 사람들과 달랐다.
