28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them as he blessed them, blessing each with the blessing suitable to him. 29 Then he commanded them and said to them, “I am to be ogathered to my people; pbury me with my fathers qin the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 in the cave that is in the field at Machpelah, to the east of Mamre, in the land of Canaan, rwhich Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite to possess as a burying place. 31 sThere they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife. 28절) 이 구절은 1-2절에 상응하는 결론에 해당되는 내용이다. 

이들은 이스라엘의 12지파로 그들의 아버지 야곱이 그들에게 말하고 그들에게 축복한 것이다. 이는 각 사람의 분량대로 축복한 것이다. 저자는 축복이라고 말하지만 내용은 분명 축복과 저주의 내용이 함께 기록되어 있다. 이 축복, 예언의 내용은 상당부분 아들들의 인격과 삶을 반영하고 있는 것을 볼 수 있다. 실제 그들은 자신의 삶속에서 심은 대로 거두고 있는 것이다. 

본절은 야곱의 세번째 축복이다. 첫번째는 바로(47장)에게 두번째는 요셉의 자녀들(48장)에게 그리고 이제 야곱의 아들들을 향한 축복이다. 

-  28  This verse summarizes vv. 1–27, and clearly designates what Jacob has said to his sons as blessing. Three times some form of brk is used: wayeḇāreḵ, keḇirḵāṯô, bērēḵ. The narrator’s statement also identifies, in colophon style, the sons of Jacob as the tribes of Israel. The distinguishing traits of the ancestor of the tribe extend into the life-style of the tribe that emanates from him. This is the third in a triad of Jacob’s blessings. First was on Pharaoh (ch. 47), second on Joseph’s children (ch. 48), and last on Jacob’s sons.7

29-33절) 자신의 아들들에게 마지막으로 축복을 한 야곱은 이제 마지막으로 유언을 남기고 있다. 그가 남긴 마지막 유언은 바로 자신을 선조들의 무덤, 즉 헷 사람 에브론의 밭에 있는 막벨라 굴에 장사해달라는 것이었다. 이 굴은 가나안 땅 마므레 앞 막벨라 밭에 있는 것으로 아브람이 헷 사람 에브론에게서 밭과 함께 사서 그의 매장지로 삼은 것이었다.(23장) 

이 굴에는 아브라함과 그의 아내 사라, 이삭과 그의 아내 리브가가 장사 되어있고 야곱이 레아를 그곳에 장사하였다. 특이한 것은 사라를 아브라함의 아내, 리브가를 이삭의 아내라고 표현하면서 레아를 나의 아내라고 표현하고 있지 않은 것이다. 여전히 야곱의 마음의 유일한 사랑하는 아내는 라헬이었던 것이다. 하지만 다행인것은 이 마지막에 야곱은 자신의 시신을 레아와 함께 묻어달라고 요청하고 있다. 

31절에서는 ‘거기’, 삼마라는 표현이 세번이나 반복되어 사용된다. 야곱은 아직 성취되지는 않았지만 반드시 성취될 하나님의 땅 약속을 믿으며 그 땅에 묻히기를 원해서 ‘거기’라는 표현을 반복해서 사용하고 있다. 

야곱은 지금 그의 침상에서 아들들에게 둘려서 마지막 숨을 거두고 그의 백성, 조상에게로 돌아갔다. 본문의 그의 백성에게로 돌아갔다라는 표현은 죽음을 의미하는 표현이다. 야곱의 인생은 험악했지만 마지막은 은혜가 넘쳤다. 죽었던 줄만 알았던 요셉의 품에서 또한 모든 아들과 손자들을 축복하고 이제 복된 안식처를 향해 떠나고 있는 것이다. 이 표현은 아브라함(25:8), 이스마엘(25:17), 이삭(35:29)에 공통적으로 사용된다. 하지만 야곱의 죽음을 나타내는 본문에는 직접적으로 ‘죽다’라는 표현이 사용되지 않는다. 이는 강조점이 죽음에 있지 않고 그의 백성, 열조에게로 돌아갔다라는 것에  있기 때문이다. 

- 49:29–33 In his last instruction to his sons, Jacob asks to be buried with his fathers in the cave purchased by Abraham from Ephron the Hittite   p 136  (v. 29). The account of the cave’s purchase is recorded in ch. 23 (see notes). The burials of Abraham (49:30) and Isaac (v. 31) are recounted in 25:8–10 and 35:27–29. While Jacob indicates that Rebekah and Leah were also buried at Machpelah (49:30), this information is not recorded elsewhere in Genesis. was gathered to his people (v. 33). This idiom, commonly used in connection with dying, seems to reflect a belief in being reunited with others in the afterlife.

-  29–32  Unfortunately, most commentators (e.g., Westermann) isolate their discussion of 49:1–28a from 49:28b–33. Whether or not the two units go back to separate traditions, which is by no means certain, they share a common feature with each other (via contrast), and that is their time orientation. Vv. 1–28 focus primarily on Jacob’s knowledge of the future, on the destiny of the tribes named for his sons. Vv. 29–32 focus on Jacob’s recall of the past. He recalls the names of patriarchs and a matriarch, and even of a Hittite foreigner of two generations ago. He recalls the name of places (the cave at Machpelah), geography (east of Mamre), and business transactions expedited by his grandfather. Jacob is as sharp on his control of family history (vv. 29–32) as he is on his control of family prophecy (vv. 1–28). He is clear both about the distant future of his family and its descendants (vv. 1–28), and his own immediate future (vv. 28–33). In particular, Jacob’s mention of the land of Canaan (v. 30) is significant; by now in the Joseph story this expression has become “the trump-card of the narrator, who uses this card to impress on his readers that Israel really has to settle in the land of Canaan and in no other country.”8
