하나님을 안다는 것

 

(요일 5:20, 개정) 『또 아는 것은 하나님의 아들이 이르러 우리에게 지각을 주사 우리로 참된 자를 알게 하신 것과 또한 우리가 참된 자 곧 그의 아들 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 것이니 그는 참 하나님이시요 영생이시라』

본문에서 두번의 알다(Know)라는 단어가 사용된다. 한글이나 영어로는 동일한 단어가 사용되지만 헬라어로는 서로 다른 단어가 사용됩니다.

 

첫번째는 eido라는 헬라어로 객관적인 앎을 말합니다. 말하자면 우리의 지성을 사용해서 어떤 내용을 받아들이고 이해하는것, 우리의 인지능력을 활용해서 받아들이는 것입니다. 이 헬라어 단어는 이 본문에서만 know라는 단어로 단한번 사용됩니다.

두번째 ginosko라는 단어는 좀더 주관적인 앎을 말한다고 할수 있습니다. 특별히 경험을 통한 앎, 특히 남녀간의 성적관계를 통한 앎의 상태를 의미할때 사용하곤 합니다. 구약이나 신약에서 하나님을 알다라고 할때 주로 사용되는 단어입니다.

이런 의미에서 요일 5:20 본문을 다시 번역해보면 "그리고 우리는 하나님의 아들이 오신것과 우리에게 지각을 주신 것을 압니다. 그래서 우리는 그분이 참되시며 우리가 참되신 그분안에 , 곧 그의 아들 예수그리스도안에 있다는 것을 알수 있습니다. 그분은 참되신 하나님이시고 영원한 생명이십니다."

앞의 그분이 오셨다는 사실과 지각을 주신것에 대해 아는 것은 객관적인 앎이고  뒷부분의 하나님, 곧 그의 아들 예수그리스도를 아는 것은 좀더 주관적인 앎이라고 할수 있다.

 

어떤 사람에게는 객관적인 앎의 과정이 더 자연스럽고 선행되어질수 있는 반면 어떤 이들에게는 주관적인 경험, 주님과의 실제적인 경험, 인격적인 만남이 더 앞설수 있다. 그 무엇이 더 중요하거나 덜 중요하지 않다. 하지만 신앙의 삶이 더욱 오래될수록, 하나님을 깊이 알아갈수록 이것의 균형을 맞추는 것은 반드시 필요하다고 할수 있다. 또한 나와 다른 하나님에 대한 이해를 가진 사람을 인정하고 용납하는것도한 반드시 필요하다. 왜냐하면 우리 하나님은 나의 인지력 너머에 계신 광대하신 분이시기 때문이다. 내가 알지 못하기에 그런 하나님은 없다라고 단정하는 것은 참으로 하나님을 제한하는 일이라고 할 수 있다.
